Honey Bee

It should not come as a surprise that the first card I pull for this has its explanation begin on page 111. I’ve been seeing 1111 and 111 for weeks now. The internet is inconsistent on the meaning of 11:11 (shocking for the woo side of the web) but the general sense is that spiritual forces are aligning for my growth & support, possibly to embark on the next phase of my path.

The honey bee brings a reminder to find joy in work, to allow frivolity & pleasure to enter in with labor. The bee is one member of a larger whole, and communication is essential.

The bee is also responsible for cross-pollination of flowers. The glorious diversity of nature does not come from the flowers alone, they require the intervention of bees to thrive & change. In return bees get better nectar than they would from evolutionarily stagnant flowers. The text uses the phrase “Eschew standard concepts of purity for the divine revelation of diversity.” Recall the quote from Daniel Mallory Ortberg, who is quoting their friend Julien “God blessed me by making me transexual for the same reason God made wheat but not bread and fruit but not wine, so that humanity might share in the act of creation.” In the case of the flowers, their diversity depends on that outside influence. The bee crosses from animalia to plant god and creates new things simply by their basic labor.

So is today’s message perhaps to allow space for glimmers in the tedium? To allow for transformative joy in rote, emotionless existence? The bee is a creature that blurs those boundaries rather than crossing them, an agent of integration rather than division.
